I buy all my tickets online, and then go to collect them.
In Dundrum they have now gotten rid of the ticket booth and so people who want to buy tickets have to go to the sweet counter. This means that when you go to get your Popcorn, Nachos, Large Coke, Natural Confectionery and M&M's (yes all for me, and even more if it's a Scorsese movie), you have to stand behind someone who is trying to lean over the counter to decide which is the best seat. REALLY ANNOYING.
The solution is buy your sweets elsewhere.
Otherwise I like the cinema generally, though I would not recommend the Mezzanine, the rows are not sloped enough so they are the only seats in the cinema where peoples heads get in the way. "USE THE FRONT ROW" you shout, ah but there, there is a railing which keeps the common people away and blocks your view. Also the free popcorn is usually luke warm.
Actually the rule is keep it simple and it is fine, go fancy and you are.... (this word would have been removed by the fine fellowship of ratemyarea had I put it in)
I will never darken the doors of this cinema again.
I went there recently and there was a fault with the screen or the movie reel which caused vertical black lines to appear on the screen. I said it to the supervisor afterwards and she called the projectionist over and they both shrugged and the projectionist said he'd look at it the next showing.
I then wrote to the manager to outline what I had experienced and the full cost of a less than ideal outing.... That was a month ago and I've heard nothing.
I would have expected a comlementary ticket at least.
What most people don't seem to realise is that you can buy the tickets at the same counter your buying your popcorn, you don't have to queue at the first ticket desk on the way in. The lobby can get pretty crowded when it's busy and the queue can be very slow as they don't have any defined lines for the counter. they do have a concession stand downstair but i've never seen it open The screens are large and they have a good amount of movies to chose from with various showing times. The front row can be pretty close to the screen, which isn't good if you're watching a fast paced action move, but fine if you want to have a nap during Zodiac. only downside is you can't eat with your mouth open. i did this once and got a punch for it from the guy sitting beside me.
I've been visiting this cinema complex frequently since it opened in september 2005. Have seen some great movies here, some really bad ones, and some that are so bad that i've had to mug people on my way home to get my money back for them! Absolutely horrendous. Anyway, I don't really have a problem with this cinema complex. It's neither spectacular nor hideous. To me it appears like any other cinema, the difference is, it's location. Close to shops and restaurants with a large carpark (never any problems finding a spot). But at the end of the day it's all about the film you're going to see. You don't really spend any time in the lobby. Please note you're highly unlikely to get availability for a film if you arrive 10 or 20 minutes before the film starts. Book beforehand.
Just one more thing, don't eat with your mouth open cos if you're sitting beside me i will punch you!
I like this cinema, it is easy to get parking near, and there are a good few restaurants nearby. The ticket desk is often quite busy, but you can actually get tickets from the guys at the food counters too - thus killing two birds with one stone.
This is the only place I've been to the cinema in the last few months. It's expensive, but which cinema isn't? It's in a decent location for parking and places to eat etc. so it's easy to incorporate seeing a movie into a day of shopping or some dinner and drinks. I'm not overly keen on the layout of the main area inside the cinema but the theatre's themselves are fine, except for some of the small ones with the aisles up middle, meaning the best seats don't exist! Their website works (most of the time) but it's very poor. I always pre-book and the ticket collection has never been a problem. Popcorn tastes OK too. All in all, it's not a bad cinema.
Well what can you say about a Cinema Complex, They are without fail dark and always sell popcorn at crazy prices. Dundrum is no different and I find no difference between this cinema and the next. Its box office is badly positioned and only has two people working in it so you always have to queue to get your tickets. If it is near to you and there is a picture on you want to see then go but, I wouldn't go out of my way to make a trip but then again I would say this about every Picture House.
I'm usually what people would call a creature of habit, however when it comes to going to the cinema I display no loyalty whatsoever. That said, Movies@Dundrum has been my cinema of choice now for over 12 months. It's clean (as far as I can tell with the lights off!), the seats are good, the sound ain't bad and the screens are consistently large (no small crampy screens like you find in other cinemas). Although pricey, in screen 1 there is a VIP area that you can book, the VIP section is comprised of two rows of large reclining seats (a bit like the lazy boys Joey and Chandler had in friends). You also get a free soft drink and the section is located on it's own balcony at the back of the cinema - perfect for a first date or for the latest Batman film (but not the two together!). The parking is also plentiful as you can just use the Main Car Park in the centre itself - if you can get parking in the green car park this is the closest to the cinema entrance. There's also plenty of restaurants around so you can really make a night of it. While this is shaping up to be a five star review, I'm only giving to give Movies@Dundrum four stars as their web site and online booking system fall way short. Once this is fixed, it's five stars from me!
